Further, multiple machines, each containing DataNodes, mitigates against the failure of any single component of the cluster.MapReduce is used to process the data, and it does so through two components, a JobTracker in the MasterNode in a Hadoop cluster, and the TaskTrackers on the DataNodes. The JobTracker splits a computing job into its component parts and distributes them to the TaskTrackers on the machines to carry out the components. The data is then returned, or reduced, to the central node. In addition to the space, the more machines added, the more processing power is gained.YARN, which stands for â€œYet Another Resource Negotiatorâ€ packages MapReduceâ€™s CPU and memory resource management functionality, allowing t hem to be run by other engines, and allowing one to run multiple applications in Hadoop.Further, the architecture and features of the base package allow for rebalancing data on multiple nodes, allocation of storage and task scheduling based on node location, versioning of the HDFS, and high availability. It is designed to be cost-effective, flexible and scalable as well as fault-tolerant.IMPLEMENTING HADOOPFor IT managers, Hadoop deployment involves configuring, deploying and managing a Hadoop cluster. Assuming the firm has neither, there are firms that specialize in outsourcing and insourcing this function; though long-term, it remains to be seen whether one can commoditize the innovation, creativity of firm-specific insights that can come from in-house talent.If the firm does decide to deploy Hadoop and manage its data itself, it must ask the same questions necessit ated by any Big Data deployment â€" questions requiring cross-departmental and cross-functional teams to answer them. These include:What the overall goals for Big Data integration at the firm are;How the use of Big Data will be aligned with the firmâ€™s strategic business objectives;What the firmâ€™s overall data needs are, based on existing and needed data infrastructure;What processes and procedures will be implemented to ensure that the firmâ€™s goals and the data science unit achieve their organizational goals;What human resources are needed; andWhat technical resources are needed, among others.The firm must determine whether they will use a managed service provider or deploy it on-premises. The benefits of integrating Hadoop into business operations through a managed service provider are many, and include backup/recovery, automated upgrades, data security tools, technical support, automated configuration and provisioning, query analysis tools, data visualization tools, and test ing environments, among others. In essence, managed service providers allow firms to focus on the data analysis aspects of Big Data without the necessity of managing a Hadoop environment. However, the firm must have a solid plan for managing data inflows and outflows to and from the managed service provider, as well as the analytics; both will require human capital and training resources.If the usage of Hadoop is likely to be sporadic or low volume, then a cloud deployment makes sense, from both a cost and human capital perspective. If, however, there is regular high volume usage, and the firm envisions the need for rapid scaling, then an on-premises install is recommended. In such an instance, usage would likely drive the costs of using the managed service provider up. Further, firms with on-premises installations may find it easier to innovate and enter new markets, especially in data-intensive industries. This must be carefully thought-out in terms of: choice of operating system; the number of map/reduce slots needed; memory and storage requirements; the number of hard drive disks and their capacity; and the optimal network configuration. These must be chosen with scalability in mind. The cluster install must be evaluated and tested before Hadoop installation. Once it is installed, IT managers also must consider which Hadoop applications to deploy and/or develop to meet the firmâ€™s specific data needs, and map out a plan to obtain or create them.From a human resources perspective, an on-premises deployment includes the personnel to deploy and maintain the Hadoop cluster, as well as the data scientists (either in a standalone data science department, dispersed throughout strategic business units, or a combination of the two), and other staff who will serve as end-users. Many managed service providers, such as Cloudera, offer security options like Project Rhino and Sentry, now both open source Hadoop security initiatives. An Explanation of Dependency Theory in Sociology Dependency theory, sometimes called foreign dependency, is used to explain the failure of non-industrialized countries to develop economically despite investments made into them from industrialized nations. The central argument of this theory is that the world economic system is highly unequal in its distribution of power and resources due to factors like colonialism and neocolonialism. This places many nations in a dependent position. The dependency theory states that its not a given that developing countries will eventually become industrialized if outside forces and natures suppress them, effectively enforcing dependency on them for even the most basic fundamentals of life. Colonialism and Neocolonialism Colonialism describes the ability and power of industrialized and advanced nations to effectively rob their own colonies of valuable resources like labor or natural elements and minerals. Neocolonialism refers to the overall domination of more advanced countries over those that are less developed, including their own colonies, through economic pressure, and through oppressive political regimes. Colonialism effectively ceased to exist after World War II, but this didnt abolish dependency. Rather, neocolonialism took over, suppressing developing nations through capitalism and finance. Many developing nations became so indebted to developed nations they had no reasonable chance of escaping that debt and moving forward. An Exampleof Dependency Theory Africa received many billions of dollars in the form of loans from wealthy nations between the early 1970s and 2002. Those loans compounded interest. Although Africa has effectively paid off the initial investments into its land, it still owes billions of dollars in interest. Africa, therefore, has little or no resources to invest in itself, in its own economy or human development. Its unlikely that Africa will ever prosper unless that interest is forgiven by the more powerful nations that lent the initial money, erasing the debt. The Decline of Dependency Theory The concept of the dependency theory rose in popularity and acceptance in the mid to late 20th century as global marketing surged. Then, despite Africas troubles, other countries thrived despite the influence of foreign dependency. India and Thailand are two examples of nations that should have remained depressed under the concept of the dependency theory, but, in fact, they gained strength. Yet other countries have been depressed for centuries. Many Latin American nations have been dominated by developed nations since the 16th century with no real indication that that is about to change. The Solution A remedy for dependency theory or foreign dependency would likely require global coordination and agreement. Assuming such a prohibition could be achieved, poor, undeveloped nations would have to be banned from engaging in any sort of incoming economic exchanges with more powerful nations. In other words, they could sell their resources to developed nations because this would, in theory, bolster their economies. However, they would not be able to purchase goods from wealthier countries. As the global economy grows, the issue becomes more pressing.

Vegetarianism

Meat: It Does My Body Good I eat meat; I drink milk; I eat eggs. I donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t eat it at every meal, but I do eat it daily. For the sake of this essay, I will state that I, clearly, am not a vegetarian. Let me begin by explaining the term vegetarian as used in this essay: a vegetarian is a person that does not consume meat. There multiple forms of vegetarianism: ovo-vegetarian diet includes eggs but not dairy products; lacto-vegetarian diet includes dairy products but not eggs; ovo-lacto vegetarian diet includes dairy and eggs but not meat.A vegan is the strictest vegetarian diet and excludes all animal products including eggs, dairy and honey. Some vegetarian diets, however, do include fish or chicken, but not Ã¢â‚¬ËœredÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ meat. After reading several articles on the pros and cons of being, or not being, a vegetarian, I came upon an article by William T. Jarvis, PH. D entitled Ã¢â‚¬Å"Why I Am Not A VegetarianÃ¢â‚¬ that encompassed many of my same views. Dr. Jarvis, now retir ed, was a professor of public health and preventive medicine at Lorna Linda University, and founder and president of The National Council Against Health Fraud and he is a Seventh Day Adventist.Seventh Day Adventists are strong believers in vegetarianism, which is one reason why I enjoyed his opposing viewpoint. In the article by Dr. Jarvis, several topics and theories are discussed including his observation on classifying vegetarians in two behavioral categories: pragmatic or ideologic. A pragmatic vegetarian is rational and most often are vegetarian out of health related concerns, but an ideologic vegetarian is one that is more emotionally rooted in the behavior Ã¢â‚¬Ëœas a matter of principleÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ so to speak. It is his views on the pragmatic vegetarian that closely mirror my own. In the article, Dr.Jarvis points out that it is possible to obtain all the essential nutrients needed, except vitamin B-12, by eating a vegetarian diet; however, he also points out that the same can b e said for eating an all meat diet, too. While I understand the need that some have to refrain from eating certain foods for health related issues, I believe that our body needs meat. Also, to me, meat tastes good. The quality of protein from meat exceeds the quality of protein from plants. Meat contains much more protein by mass, and this protein contains all the essential amino acids, in the correct balance.Meat is also rich is Iron which is needed by pregnant women and middle-aged women approaching menopause. Many argue that there are certain health risks of eating meat, especially red meat, but they often tend to be exaggerated. Avoid processed meat and try to eat lean meat as much as possible, and meat can be very healthy in the diet, and does not increase risk of heart disease or cancer, as Dr. Jarvis also pointed out in his article quoting scientific data from nutrition-related research supports vegetarianism only tentatively.Another reason I think eating meat is healthier th an a vegetarian diet is that we, humans, are fully able to digest meat. We have canine teeth, which allow us to chew meat, and enzymes in our stomach and small intestine to digest it. In conclusion, eating meat tends to be an economical option for nutrition overall. While it is possible to get all the nutrients in meat on a vegetarian diet, it is much more difficult, often resulting in the need to obtain various types of grains to ensure that no vitamins, minerals, or amino acids are missing.This can be inconvenient and costly, and difficult to prepare. Meat supplies us with the vitamins we need in everyday life. How the Characters of Macbeth and the Duke in My Last...

I am examining the characters of the Duke and Macbeth and how they can be considered disturbed characters. The play, Ã¢â‚¬ËœMacbethÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ and poem, Ã¢â‚¬ËœMy Last DuchessÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ both show psychological truths and insights into the characters. While the Duke shows himself to be disturbed straight away in the poem, MacbethÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s mental deterioration takes place and develops as the play proceeds. Ã¢â‚¬ËœMacbethÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ written by William Shakespeare and set in 1050 contains themes of status, power and death while Ã¢â‚¬ËœMy Last DuchessÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ by Robert Browning written in 1842 shows how status, wealth and the marriage market can affect a manÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s life. Macbeth at first is a well-respected and liked character.
